living fully, practicing fully

1/24/2015

"We are born to ride the wild winds of passion, surf the turbulent oceans of despair, and relentlessly explore the great vastness of this crazy world - until our bodies collapse in ecstatic exhaustion." - Sarah Harvey

Whoa! Having just come home from a three week adventure in Mexico and thrown myself (full on) back into regular life and routines, this quote stopped me, it spoke to me on so many levels. How can we create this within the confines of everyday life? How does our Yoga practice help us achieve this? If we simply allow it to?

Every time we step onto the mat we are starting a new adventure. We are riding the breath, moving and flowing in and out of postures, finding stiffness in our muscles and emotions in our hearts. We continue, pushing past the mind that asks us to stop, to stay where it is comfortable and not move past, we continue so that we can fully embody our deepest selves. So that we can unleash our fullest potential - be raw, passionate and free within our daily routines as we are when we are wandering the world free of the confines of time and space.

Simple and yet ever so hard to achieve. That is why we practice. Today, tomorrow, the next day and the one after that. Even when we don't feel like it. We stop, we breath, we sit for a moment in stillness with ourselves or we move and flow with the breath and each time we get a little closer to finding ourselves.

Remember who you really are

What I read in class this week. An adaptation of a piece of writing by Alexa Torontow on Elephant Journal (http://www.elephantjournal.com/2015/01/remember-who-you-really-are/)

Remember Who You Really Are

You are not what you do. You are not what you don't do.

You are not the job title. You are not a labeled societal sub group.

You are not your personality;

You are not a happy person, a depressed person or an angry person.

You are not a definition of your own qualities.

Who are you?

You are not who your mother says you are.

You are not who your best friend says you are.

You are not your own descriptions of yourself.

Drop all the labels, titles, designations, descriptions, accomplishments and even failures.

Below the labels, beneath the layers, on the most subtle level...

What do you feel?

What is left?

What is there?

Who are you?

You are not defined or confined by the limits of your physical body.

You are not your beating heart, you are not your breath.

You are not your mind, emotions or thoughts.

If you are not all these "things"...

Who are you?

Take a deep breath into every cell of your being. As you exhale release all the labels, all the descriptors, titles, both other and self created. Bask in this space.

Who are you?

Feel your way to it. Don't define it, don't put it into words, but feel it completely.

Do you feel a sense of spaciousness, of limitlessness, of infinite potential?

---------

Remember your potential, remember your limitless possibility.

Remember that you can not be defined, by self or other.

Remember who you are, where you come from and why you are here.

Remember your knowingness, your awareness, remember your truth.

Who are you?

You are the awareness of all these things.

You are embedded deep within yet extend far beyond.

You are the driving force of all these things.

You are both the wave and the ocean.

You are both the dance and the dancer.

You are both the creator and the container.

You are me as I am you.

A happy new year it is - two more weekly classes to connect with all of you!

Join me twice a week now at Unity Yoga Teahouse! In addition to my 5pm vinyasa class on Mondays, I will now be teaching a 10:30am vinyasa class on Wednesdays!

Also, I am now scheduled to teach hatha at Semperviva SUN Studio Saturdays at 4pm! I had such an amazing time subbing in November and early December and look forward to connecting more this year!
