"We are born to ride the wild winds of passion, surf the turbulent oceans of despair, and relentlessly explore the great vastness of this crazy world - until our bodies collapse in ecstatic exhaustion." - Sarah Harvey
Whoa! Having just come home from a three week adventure in Mexico and thrown myself (full on) back into regular life and routines, this quote stopped me, it spoke to me on so many levels. How can we create this within the confines of everyday life? How does our Yoga practice help us achieve this? If we simply allow it to?
Every time we step onto the mat we are starting a new adventure. We are riding the breath, moving and flowing in and out of postures, finding stiffness in our muscles and emotions in our hearts. We continue, pushing past the mind that asks us to stop, to stay where it is comfortable and not move past, we continue so that we can fully embody our deepest selves. So that we can unleash our fullest potential - be raw, passionate and free within our daily routines as we are when we are wandering the world free of the confines of time and space.
Simple and yet ever so hard to achieve. That is why we practice. Today, tomorrow, the next day and the one after that. Even when we don't feel like it. We stop, we breath, we sit for a moment in stillness with ourselves or we move and flow with the breath and each time we get a little closer to finding ourselves.
